February 2004 The preparation for replacing our 1920's basement began in May 2003. Nine months later, demolition and construction began.

Monday, February 16 Pouring rain & standing water. Six men arrived around 8am. Removing the back chimney NW Corner Cribs are the stacks of wood that hold the beams & jacks NE Corner Lifting a beam off the trailer Leveling and tightening the beam. Tuesday, February 17 MOVING UP This is the only section without the basement below Placing beams in the NW corner of the house A jack in the SW corner 1 of 4 jacks that lift the beams that support the house! Chimney This is the motor that drives the pump that pressurizes the jacks that lifts the house (estimated at 150,000 pounds!) While 1 person mans the motor, 3 remain under the house and 2 others are outside - all monitoring the process North side NW Corner North & West sides South Side The house is raised in increments (4 times). March 8 - 12 Tuesday Removing debris, dirt, & concrete from the driveway Now it's time to rebuild . . .
